Carl Heinz Habel – General Manager, Nobu at One&Only, South Africa
Carl first experienced Le Verre de Vin back in 2006, when he worked as a Restaurant Manager at The Cape Grace Hotel. The Sommelier there at the time, Chris Westin, implemented an extensive wine by the glass offering, which was then a leading edge concept in South Africa. Realising that he needed a wine preservation system to be able to make this offer viable, a Le Verre de Vin system was installed. Once it was in place, Carl saw wine by the glass sales increase by nearly 400%.
Moving on to the Showroom Restaurant as Manager and Sommelier, Carl was instrumental in offering 35 wines by the glass – again this was driven by the versatility of the Le Verre de Vin system in keeping wines fresh. Carl’s next move took him to the Planet Restaurant at the Mount Nelson where, again, he had 2 Le Verre de Vin systems.
Now at Nobu, situated in the incredible One&Only Hotel on Cape Town’s glittering Waterfront, Carl again turned to Le Verre de Vin to support his extensive still and sparkling wine by the glass programme.
