Earlier this year we welcomed Dan to the team at Bermar International. A Suffolk born and bred football enthusiast with a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry.
Dan joined us as Customer Service Executive and after 3 months of hard work and dedication expanding his technical knowledge of Le Verre de Vin technology, he has recently taken over the service centre here at Bermar ensuring that our systems continue to support over 10,000 customers within the UK every day of the year.
Where did your career in hospitality begin?
My career started at the ripe age of 15 as a kitchen porter at a local family run restaurant. I found from a young age that I had a passion for food and wine (well, food when I was 15… obviously!) and then eventually found a taste for the wine sector, I really enjoyed the buzz of a busy restaurant service.
From there I worked my way up to management roles in food and beverage operations across various hotels and restaurants.
Working in the wine industry did you have any experience with Le Verre de Vin?
I had worked with Le Verre de Vin for a number of years, the systems enabled me to serve a wide range of wines by the glass in perfect condition for up to 3 weeks (it’s like I’ve been scripted!); if ever a customer requested something a little different, I would never hesitate to open up an alternative bottle of wine with the assurance of knowing I could reseal the remainder of the bottle in a matter of seconds.
What has been the best experience of your life so far?
I took a year out to travel Australia in 2014, working my way up the entire East Coast from South Australia all the way up to the Northern Territory. Half of my time was spent working in a fine dining restaurant at the only 6 star resort in the country, Qualia on Hamilton Island, Whitsundays.
Soon after returning to the UK I realised that with my customer service experience I could achieve my goal and leave hospitality for a commercial role within a different sector.
And now you’ve landed a position at Bermar! Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I’m surrounded by well experienced professionals (sometimes) here at Bermar so I’d like to think I will have progressed through the ranks having learnt from people around me. As Bermar is an International business I’d love to explore any opportunity to travel the world and expand my wine knowledge.
